What to Expect
Our Coordinated Assessment Pathway
Traditional ADHD diagnosis pathways involve multiple referrals, long waiting lists and the challenge of finding a specialist who will accept your assessment. Our service removes these barriers by coordinating the entire process.
1.
Initial Assessment
Initial Assessment
Your ADHD assessment is conducted by our clinical team using evidence-based methods. We complete a comprehensive evaluation that examines symptoms, history and functional impact, tailored to the age and circumstances of each client.
2.
Diagnosis and Report
Diagnosis and Report
Following your assessment, we prepare a detailed diagnostic report with clear findings, diagnostic conclusions and practical recommendations. If ADHD is identified, this report meets the standard required for psychiatric or paediatric review.
3.
Specialist Review
Specialist Review
For adults (17+) seeking medication, we book you directly with a partnered psychiatrist who accepts our assessments. For children, we can coordinate referrals for paediatric review where indicated.
4.
Treatment Planning
Treatment Planning
Your specialist appointment focuses on treatment options, including medication if appropriate. Because you arrive with a comprehensive assessment already completed, these appointments are more efficient and productive.

Why Choose Mindstate Consulting?
Reduced Wait Times – Complete the full assessment and medication review process in under two months. Traditional pathways through the public system or finding private psychiatrists independently often take 8–15 months or longer.
End-to-End Coordination – We manage the entire process from initial assessment through to psychiatric review. You won’t need to navigate referral pathways, search for psychiatrists with availability, or coordinate between multiple providers.
Assessment Standards That Meet Psychiatric Requirements – Our assessments are comprehensive enough that partnered psychiatrists accept them without requiring additional evaluation. This means fewer appointments and no repeat assessments.
Clear Process, No Uncertainty – You’ll know exactly what to expect at each stage. We guide you through the pathway step-by-step, providing clarity rather than leaving you to figure out next steps independently.
Chatswood Location – Our clinic is located in Chatswood with easy access to public transport and parking options. We also have Telehealth options available.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does an ADHD assessment cost?
Contact our team for current fees. We can provide information about what’s included and any Medicare rebates that may apply to your circumstances.
Do I need a GP referral?
A GP referral with a Mental Health Care Plan allows you to access Medicare rebates for psychology appointments. We recommend discussing this with your GP before booking.
For a step-by-step walkthrough of the GP appointment — including what to say and what referral types to ask for — read our guide to getting an ADHD diagnosis in Australia.
Can you assess children and adolescents?
Yes, we provide ADHD assessments for children, adolescents, and adults. The assessment process is adapted to suit different age groups, and we work with parents and caregivers to gather the developmental history and collateral information needed for accurate diagnosis.
What if ADHD isn’t identified?
If your assessment doesn’t result in an ADHD diagnosis, you’ll still receive a comprehensive report with findings and recommendations. Understanding what isn’t causing your difficulties can be just as valuable as a diagnosis, and we can discuss alternative explanations and support options.
Will I definitely be prescribed medication?
Medication decisions are made by the psychiatrist during your review appointment. Our assessment provides the diagnostic information needed for that conversation, but medication is one of several treatment options and the decision is made collaboratively based on your circumstances and preferences.
Is the assessment conducted in person or online?
Both options are available. You can attend your assessment in person at our Chatswood clinic, or complete it online via Telehealth from the comfort of your home. Both formats follow the same comprehensive assessment process, so you can choose whichever suits your circumstances.
